Power Rankings (First Edition)

The BJIM Scouts will be posting Power Rankings on a monthly or bi-weekly basis.  Only the Top 5 teams will be recognized at this point.  The Top 5 is developed by our three anonymous panelists casting our own votes.  The final standings are as follows:

1. The Big Dribblers (15 pts)
The unanimous selection for top team, TBD is perhaps the most talented team in this year's considerably weaker talent pool from last year.  They are led by PreSeason All-Star Kent Miiller, who will be looking to make his case for League MVP this year.  He is clearly one of the front runners, with quick hands, top rated speed, elite ball handling skills, and the ability to finish creatively at the rim. Last years team was very competetive, and the addition of Rob Tinkle, among others, may add something to the team.  Tinkle, Chris Kahn, Joey Lopshire, and Carl Vander Kooy all add CYO basketball experience to the team.

2. Mystical Meerkats (10)
Only one vote seperated the second, third, and fourth placed teams in our power rankings.  By the skin of their teeth, the Meerkats are our pick for runner up.  A team of primarily sophomores, the Meerkats were impressive as freshmen in last years league.  Led by MVP candidate Adam Iffert, the Meerkats have a large team, which adds depth, but that could be their biggest obstacle to overcome.  Smaller teams are actually more poised for success in the Intramural circuit, because the games are short, and having a small team enables teams to keep the hot hand on the court.  If the Meerkats can overcome their crowded roster, it will be because Iffert absolutely dominates the game with help from brothers Marshall and Clay Farren, and the rest of the returning players. The team was noted to have incredibly chemistry last year, and they can only hope it carries over to this year.

3. Flint Tropics (9)
What looked like the number one team in the preseason has fallen to number three in the eyes of our panelists.  The Tropics still may boast one of the most talented rosters in the league, but they clearly have issues that will prevent them from dominating the league in the manner we once thought possible.  Brendan McAuly, Ryan Morelock, and Ryan Penny are all elite talents in this league, and have the ability to take over a game.  The Menne brothers both have height, and Pete Arnold is a smart player capable of starting on a winning team. However, an eleven man roster could take playing time away from their stars, and the Tropics may struggle to distribute minutes in crucial games.

4. Ballers on Point (8)
Every player on this roster has the potential to be an All-Star. Saying this, there are only six players listed on the roster.  And one of them, Grant Prather, is also listed on the Mystical Meerkats roster.  The team's small roster size will either be one of its greatest strengths or its biggest weaknesses.  On one hand, the Ballers will never find themselves in a situation where they are forced to play untalented players, but they also might struggle to compete if they are playing a team that is deep with talent. Myles Faulken, Spencer Martin, and Matt Lang are all poised to make a huge impact every game.

5. Hamburgulars  (2)
The 'Burgulars are loaded with talent but clouded with question marks.  Jalen Brown is perhaps the greatest talent in the league, but has yet to make a huge impact on the league, not making last year's All-Star cut.  Seth Gochanhauer is a streaky shooter with the potential to keep his team in any game if he gets hot, and Sterling Mitchell also has game changing skill.  Nate Delumpa has CYO basketball experience, and is a force inside. The question for the 'Burgulars will be if they can get enough contributions from the team as a whole.

  1. Y'all are just hatin' on the Coach's Kids. Just because a team has talented players, good chemistry or history doesn't mean they are good!!! Your panelists are just haters and bandwagoneers.
